In addition to promoting interaction between Brazilian and international researchers from different universities, the event also seeks to discuss the challenges of documenting and revitalizing minority languages in various parts of the world.

EVENT HISTORY
The UNESP Advanced School of Linguistics emerges as an unique initiative at the UNESP campus in São José do Rio Preto/SP. Over the years, the Postgraduate Program in Linguistic Studies at IBILCE/UNESP (São José do Rio Preto/SP) has been a reference in promoting international events focused on discussing and disseminating innovative research in different areas of linguistics. The conferences and symposiums organized by the institution have attracted global experts and contributed to strengthening scientific dialogue among researchers from different continents. This event is in line with this tradition of excellence but differs from previous events held at the institution by offering intensive training through simultaneous thematic workshops.
In its first edition, UNALIN will feature the following guests: Prof. Dr. Jóhanna Barðdal (Ghent University, Belgium), Prof. Dr. Marianne Mithun (University of California, Santa Barbara, USA), Prof. Dr. Salikoko S. Mufwene (University of Chicago, USA), Prof. Dr. Dennis Albert Moore (Emílio Goeldi Museum, Brazil), Prof. Dr. Greville Corbett (University of Surrey, UK), and Prof. Dr. Ana Suelly Arruda Câmara Cabral (University of Brasília, Brazil), who specialize in research areas including the documentation and description of endangered languages, phonology, morphosyntax, semantics and pragmatics of Indigenous/Creole languages, linguistic typology, and functional/constructional analysis of languages. This event reflects the growing demand for more specialized and in-depth training, promoting interaction between field experts and undergraduate and graduate students, as well as Brazilian researchers.

GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING AND SUBMITTING ABSTRACTS FOR PAPER PRESENTATION (Oral Communication and Poster):
For submission, participants must send two versions of the abstract:
-
Anonymous version – for blind review;
-
Identified version – including the name of the author(s) and, if applicable, co-author(s), along with the information requested below;
-
The paper may be submitted individually or in co-authorship. Each participant may submit one individual paper and up to three co-authored papers (with undergraduate or graduate students) using the same registration. Undergraduate students who submit an abstract together with their supervisor may present the paper either as an oral presentation or as a poster. If the undergraduate student chooses to submit the abstract individually, the paper must be presented as a poster;
-
In order for all those involved in the co-authored presentation to receive a presentation certificate, both the author and the co-authors must register individually (only the main author should submit the abstract to the committee; there is no need for co-authors to submit the same abstract), making the payment according to the corresponding category;
-
The evaluation of abstracts submitted to UNALIN 2025 will be carried out on a rolling basis, that is, as soon as they are received by the Organizing Committee. The Scientific Committee’s review will be sent within 10 days after the abstract is received. Therefore, the earlier a participant submits their abstract, the faster they will receive the evaluation. In addition, early submission guarantees the right to the discounted registration fee. We therefore recommend that participants avoid leaving the submission of their abstracts and their registration to the last minute.
